I love Booktok and Bookstagram and all the amazing recommendations I get from creators on both apps. But....not every book is a 10/10. Here are 10 of the Booktok books I've read in 2022 and my recommendation.

WOW. This book was a wild ride. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started reading it and it was nothing like what I expected. I literally tore through this book in one afternoon because I couldn’t stop reading. If you think Colleen Hoover is only about romance, you are missing out. Although there is a little romance in this book, it’s not the focus and the twists and turns this story takes will keep you guessing. AND THAT ENDING!

I know that most of booktok is in love with Ali Hazelwood and I’m working to get there, but this one really wasn’t for me. I somehow heard a rumor that this book was based off a Kylo Ren fan fic and that kinda ruined it (50 Shades really ruined the whole fan fic to book thing). I’ve now read “Lessons in Chemistry’ by Bonnie Garmus and it was a similar storyline done better.

Oh, I tried. I really tried. I love so many of Holly Black’s books (the Curse Workers series being my favorite) but I just couldn’t get into this one. Maybe it’s the faerie element, but I couldn’t get into this series at all.

Adorable! Just adorable. I really loved the sweetness and smartass banter between the characters in this book. The storyline was awesome (hello female president) and I really enjoyed reading the emails sent between the two guys. And no spoilers, but I really loved that happily ever after.

The book that made me join bookstagram. This book is one of the most well written of the year, in my opinion. The author uses beautiful imagery and poetic language to tell a story that I couldn’t put down. There were so many quotes from this book that touched me, I knew I needed to share them with the world. This book is a Save-ReRead-Share with Others for sure.

I listened to the audiobook of this one and loved it! (In that vein, if you haven’t listened to the audiobook of ‘Daisy Jones & the Six', stop reading and go find it right now. It has a full cast who are perfect in their roles) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was so well written, so glamorous and yet so heartbreaking that I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t wait to learn what happened between Evelyn and her husbands and live the glamour of her old Hollywood life.

The TRAUMA. I mean I should have expected it with the title of the book but, whew, it was just too much. Too heartbreaking to even finish.

As recommend by Booktok I’ve now read every book that Emily Henry has written and really enjoyed them all, and Beach Read was by far my favorite. It’s a little heavier than the title suggests, but the depth of the characters and the slow build romance really did it for me. This one was well developed, emotional and

I was definitely pressured into reading this one. I don’t normally like Greek mythology fiction (or non-fiction for that matter) but I gave it a chance. It was beautifully written love story, told from a unique perspective, but I feel like it’s a niche that didn’t really call to me. So, this one is a personal preference for me, but still a skip.

I wavered back and forth on skip or save for this one. Originally it was a skip, since the sad parts really got to me, but in thinking back I really like the authors expressive descriptions of pain the main character suffers. This book had some creative and unusual metaphors that I really enjoyed. When a writer can create a metaphor I’ve never seen or surprise me with lyrical description of a feeling, that’s when I love a book.
There are about a million other Booktok books to read and I'll keep trying them all! It's fun to get recommendations and be able to chat about books with social media friends.
